MEMBER-ONLY EVENT

We are excited to provide an update on the Student Accommodation Association's (SAA) ongoing collaboration with the Commonwealth Department of Education through the design phase of the proposed National Code to ensure the student accommodation element is industry informed.

Progress to Date:

  • Initial consultation with the Department of Education in January 2024
  • Meeting with the Gender-based Violence Policy team in Canberra last week
  • SAA submission in response to the issues paper – submitted on Friday 28 June 2024

The Student Accommodation Association is advocating for:

1. The adoption of SAA’ s definition for student accommodation as “accommodation for the exclusive use of students”

2. Student accommodation elements of a proposed National Code to be integrated into the National Property Accreditation Scheme (NPAS) assessment framework to avoid unintended consequences and to obtain sector wide ‘buy in’ of the reform.

3. Position the NPAS accreditation as a prerequisite for quality student accommodation and identifies the property as meeting industry led minimum standards including relevant elements of a National Code.

The SAA National Committee understand this is an important piece of work and is pleased to provide our members with the opportunity to hear from and work directly with the Gender-based Violence Policy team on Friday 5 July 2024.
